Active Travel

Active travel refers to any type of travel that involves being physically active, such as walking, cycling and incidental activity associated with using public transport.

Regular physical activity has important health benefits such as reducing your risk of type 2 diabetes, heart disease and some cancers, as well as preventing unhealthy weight gain, improving mental wellbeing and building strong bones and muscles.

Get Healthy at Work’s online Action Planner highlights several initiatives that workplaces can implement to promote active travel. For example, improving access to active travel options and providing end-of-trip facilities such as lockers and change rooms.
